Description: In a national championship matchup of All-American pitchers, Joliet (Ill.) Junior College’s Dillon Roark was the last man standing on the mound on the night of Wednesday, May 21, 2008 in Tyler, Texas. The sophomore right-hander threw a commanding five-hit shutout to lead the Wolves past Gloucester County (N.J.) College, 9-0, at Mike Carter Field for their first NJCAA Division III baseball title since 1994. Roark (12-1) completed the game with his ninth strikeout before being mobbed by teammates just in front of the mound. The photographs in this gallery were taken by staff photographer Herb Nygren Jr.
