03-17-09 Andy Woods School Groundbreaking

- Description: Ground was broken on March 17, 2009 for the structure that will replace Andy Woods Elementary in Tyler. It was the first groundbreaking event for new schools in TISD's 2008 bond program, which represents Phase 2 of a multi-phase approach to tackling facilities issues in TISD. The new Woods is one of the five replacement campuses being built as part of the 4.9 million bond program that TISD voters approved in November 2008. The bond program will replace Clarkston, Griffin, Jones, Orr and Woods elementary schools, as well as the St. Louis School-Wayne D. Boshears Center for Exceptional Programs. Jones and the Boshears school will be constructed as one facility. The district hopes to open all of the schools in August 2010. Photographs in this gallery were taken by chief photographer Jaime R.
