Description: On Aug. 29, 2009, East Texas Medical Center hosted the annual Deep Brain Stimulation (DPS) Celebration of Living. The event will start at 11:30 at the ETMC Pavilion at 801 Clinic Dr. in Tyler. Dr. George M. Plotking and his staff will be on hand to answer questions concerning this treatment for Parkinson's Disease and Essential Tremor patients. DPS is essentially a pacemaker for the brain, utilizing an implant that generates electrical pulses that block the brain signals that cause Pakinson's symptons. Adjustments are made with a portable programmer and is done as an outpatient. For more information as to how you can help, please contact Kelly Pierson at ETMC via email, kmpierson@etmc.org or via telephone, 903-596-3648.
